Six Tricks for a Healthy Beach Day

I am a total beach bum. It’s the California in me. The sunshine seems to encourage lots of eating… and drinking… and more drinking [umm, hello margaritas]! But for the days you want to indulge in some YOU time — sans the boozy drinks and salty potato chips — try these six tricks from The Chalkboard Mag and I…

MOVE | Kick off your time by the water with a brisk walk or light jog [tip: pack a sports bra]. I recommend a mile, to boost energy while still avoiding sore ankles from the sand.

HYDRATE Coconut water contains electrolytes, which helps curb dehydration. Chlorophyll water is another refreshing option, and really helps to control hunger.

READ | In between your favorite magazines, indulge in something mindful that will push you to be better at work and home. Among my favorites is, “Be happy: remember to live, love laugh and learn.”  It’s a quick, easy read that reminds us happiness is OURS.

MUNCH | I looove crunchy munchies as much as anyone else! Try packing kale chips and mixed nuts rather than traditional snacks. You’ll still get that crunch, but without taking your health habits off-track. You can also try our homemade tortilla chip recipe.

LATHER | Lather up! Your skin [and future] deserve it. I love this portable stick sunscreen by Sugar for the face and lips. I love Coola’s body spray for everywhere else!

MEDITATE | Begin and end your beach day with prayer and meditation. Securing time for yourself to think, reflect, and set intentions will keep you sane — even when your life feels out of order. Make this part of your everyday routine [like you would a workout].
