Mind Ready Monday: Big City, Big Dreams
I’m waking up this morning in the Big Apple. The skyline is bright and the energy is high.
My trip to NYC comes in the midst of a two-week hiatus from sunny California. That means I’ll be off the broadcast waves for a couple of weeks. Instead, I’ll be talking weddings, fashion and travel with you.
First up: New York Fashion Week. My sister and I are taking on the city’s streets (in heels, of course). We’re really excited about doing some work with Harper’s Bazaar.
NYFW Essentials: Harper’s Bazaar mag, Chanel sunnies, NARS gloss and biz cards.
Big sis Rochelle is the true style maven of the family, and I’m an expert of all things love and weddings. Which means, Rochelle will be scouring the shows for the season’s best trends, and I’ll be scanning the runway for unexpected wedding gowns. It will probably turn into a total swoon fest, ending with me wanting to get married all over again. I wonder if my husband would go for it?
Today’s Mind Ready Monday moment came to me while wandering around Central Park last night. It followed a weekend spent in Columbia, Missouri. As you can imagine, Missouri has far fewer skyscrapers and swanky hotels. But it’s where I launched my career. And it’s where I turned some early goals into bragging rights on my resume.
Bottom line: dreams are built everywhere. Lives are built everywhere. Success is built everywhere. Work hard, be patient and stop waiting for greener grass on some other side of the country. Big dreams don’t always require big cities. Rather, they require optimism and resilience.
… And maybe a pair of heels. It is Fashion Week, after all.
