Katie’s Favorites: A Day in LA
I <3 LA! The best part about this city is its versatility. You can have almost anything and everything you want — from beaches, to beautiful hikes, to quaint restaurants, to the best boho coffee spots. While I’m away in Australia, it’s only fitting our content director, Katie, share her favorite spots here at home. She’s an LA native and ALWAYS knows just how to spend her day. Consider this your insider guide to the city of angels!
Lauren may be off playing with koalas + kangaroos, but I’m still here with the palm trees + sunshine. Being born + raised in LA certainly has its perks – think In-n-Out + celebrity sightings – so it’s no wonder I moved right back to the west coast after graduation. Here’s a guide to my ideal day in LA!
9A: #Coffeetime at Alfred Coffee + Kitchen | I’m surprised that I can’t just say ‘I’ll have the usual’ every time I walk into this coffee shop. I spend WAY too much time here, but between the coffee I crave + the instagram-worthy space, I can’t seem to stay away. They also just opened the Alfred Tea Room across the street, so effectively they will be supporting my caffeine habit for the foreseeable future.
11A: Brunch at Stir Market | Obviously, a good brunch is the most important part of the week + one of my favorite spots is Stir Market on Beverly. We always order too much food + stay way too long (I think our record is 5 hours), but it’s so worth it – especially the moroccan baked eggs + California avocado toast!
1P: Shopping at Sugar Paper, Hudson Grace + Jenni Kayne | One of my favorite things when I was growing up was that I lived walking distance from the Brentwood Country Mart – an elevated strip mall that has anything + everything from the best chicken tenders in the world to an adorable bookstore. In one afternoon I can find the best greeting cards at sugar paper, classic + chic home goods at Hudson Grace, and my new favorite flats at Jenni Kayne.
3P: Treat yourself at Sweet Rose Creamery | Growing up around the corner from this ice cream shop was especially dangerous + there’s ALWAYS a reason to get ice cream. The classic flavors are amazing (especially the fresh mint with homemade chocolate chips), but they are always coming up with the most creative and surprisingly delicious seasonal flavors – think carrot cake with pecans or honey lavender!
5P: Burn it off at Temescal Canyon | There are tons of places to hike in LA + this hike in the Pacific Palisades is one of the best. There are several routes to take depending on your ability + ambition, plus the view at the top is amazing! [Note: You don’t have to climb the trees]
7P: Pack an L.A. picnic i.e. drive thru In-n-Out | I’ve tried A LOT of burgers in my life, but I only come back to this classic. Picking up several #2’s with extra animal fries on any Cali road trip is a MUST.
8P: Enjoy a movie night under the stars at Hollywood Forever Cemetery | Watching a movie in the middle of a cemetery may seem like a terrible idea, but you aren’t sitting on headstones or anything! My friends + I love taking in the Cinespia features on warm LA summer nights. The first screening this season is May 14th with Fast Times at Ridgemont High!
