Australia Travel Diary: Hamilton Island
Ready to wander away with me?? Because we’re going to Hamilton Island together…
This is the last of my Australian travel diaries. Following some time in Sydney, Jake and I flew a few hours north, to Hamilton Island. It’s the only destination nearby by the Great Barrier Reef that you can fly directly into, and it’s home to a community that will immediately make you wish for a vacation home!
Everyone on the island [literally, everyone] gets around town by golf carts. Bye bye, LA traffic. I felt like I was part of the Flinstone family… [with a bikini on]. The town is quaint and lively with a bakery, restaurants, an ice cream shop and TONS of water sports.
I wanted to give you a glimpse at different parts of our stay, beginning first with Qualia Resort. This hotel makes you feel like you’re worlds away, with its infinity pools, beachside chairs, and rainforest-like cabins. Plus, the staff is the friendliest…
This is a must-do on your bucket list! Whitehaven Beach [within the Whitsunday Islands] feels like a dream. It’s one spot truly more beautiful in person than in photos. The sand is made of 98-percent silica, which means it can even turn to glass when lightning hits! Bring your jewels with you — because it’s pure enough to clean your gems!
If you go, plan ahead! We learned that lesson while there, and missed out on snorkeling through the Great Barrier Reef because of it. It’s a busy place, so book ahead!
