My Favorite Moments of 2016
Oh, what a year it’s been of high highs and low lows. I traveled the world, launched a shirts collection and learned I’d soon become a mama. I also failed a few times over and consistently felt pain over our world’s heartbreaks. There seemed to be a lot of it. But mostly, 2016 taught me the light will always come back shining.
Because it is in every failure, every heartbreak, every tear that we learn to appreciate every triumph, every newfound love, every belly laugh.
I have so loved getting to spend another year alongside each of you. Thank you for your love and inspiration. Here’s a look back at my favorite moments from 2016…
A new year called for a new name. You cheered me on and supported this little corner of the internet as I rebranded my site into what is now You & Lu. The change was rooted in YOU. You’re the ones who continue to join me on this journey. Let’s continue creating a happy life together, through wellness, style + celebratory ideas.
Shirts, shirts, shirts! YAY! You & Lu’s first-ever basics collection launched in the summertime, and it made my heart burst with pride. The cozy tees, tanks, and sweatshirts embody what this site stands for — simplicity + ease + style.
I always adore working with the sweethearts at LaurenConrad.com. This year, we worked on more sweet DIY’s together, including these herb-infused soaps, fruit vases + holiday ornaments. Team LC will forever be one of my favorites.
Fashion Week is always among my favorite events of the year. It feels a lot like playing dress-up as a kid, only with a lot more chaos! I lusted over magical runway gowns while sharing the styles you’re already seeing (and wearing!) over and over again.
After months of doing nothing with my office space, I finally decorated it. It’s my little home away from home, and my happy sanctuary for creating content. I do everything from this space — brainstorming, writing, designing, daydreaming… and everything in between.
This is one of my favorite photos from 2016. Jake and I helped hand out 5,000 backpacks to underprivileged children in Watts, alongside PSLA. This is something we do each year, but this time was different — we had learned we were expecting our own child just the day before. Our hearts wildly connected to this little girl who so sweetly looked into our eyes and said everything without saying a word.
I crossed off a 2016 goal of mine juuust in time: appearing on KTLA’s morning show. Ever since leaving broadcasting to focus on the blog, a part of me still misses television. I remedied that by chatting with KTLA anchors on how to make your holiday party the prettiest yet.
Another dream checked off the list was shooting with the crazy-talented Russell James for Donna Karan. The designer’s newest line, Urban Zen, combines fashion and philanthropy in such a beautiful way. The designs are inspired by cultures around the world, and the brand works to help communities that oftentimes go unnoticed.
Jake and I had been dreaming about a trip to Australia since we first started dating in college. It was a place we said we’d travel to ‘someday.’ Fast forward nine years, and that someday finally happened. We spotted kangaroos outside our windows, cuddled with koala bears and walked the whitest beaches we’d ever seen. It also marked our last major trip before our biggest life change yet…
… the BABY! This year’s biggest surprise will soon become next year’s biggest blessing. Our little babe will be joining us in early April. I have had a really incredible pregnancy so far, and I am indulging in the entire process of growing a tiny miracle. God is so good.
The light always comes back shining…
Happy New Year, loves.
