Body Boost: Ginger + Lemon Tea Benefits

Give your body and brain a mega-boost with a cup of hot ginger tea this weekend. My bestie got me hooked a few months ago, and I’ve been sipping on this recipe ever since. It helps with everything from bloating and digestion, to inflammation and nausea.

I was never a huge ginger fan because of the taste. It’s strong! But lemon + mint balance out the flavors, and the drink becomes super calming. Think of it as your wine-replacement! I lean toward making this at night, when my stomach is settling down from a meal. But it’s also super beneficial to have in the morning. Here’s how to make it…

2 c water | 1 tbsp ground ginger root | 2-2 lemon slices | 2 sprigs mint | pinch of turmeric

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir well. Use a large spoon or ladle to fill your mug (this keeps most ginger root pieces from spilling into your cup). Keep the remaining mixture on simmer, or refrigerate and sip cold later.

Note: this recipe is to taste, so don’t shy away from altering it to fit your likes!

Ginger helps reduce bloating, ease digestion, aid in nausea (which has been especially helpful during my pregnancy) and fight the common cold. Lemon is packed with calcium and vitamin C, while also being great for digestion. Mint calms your stomach (and brain!) while making the drink refreshing to sip on after a meal. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, which makes it great for solving aches and pains.
