How-To: The Perfect Pony Tail
Happy FriYAY from NYC! I’m in the big apple for Fashion Week right now, indulging in all things style, beauty… and food, obviously. Photos coming soon!
I wanted to share a quick hair how-to on creating the perfect pony. It’s a very 90’s-ish trend that keeps popping up on both the runways and the red carpet. It channels the inner-teenager in all of us, but with a much chicer spin.
Say goodbye to a loose, falling pony by following these tips + tricks… [PS. my shirt is from TopShop]!
STEP 1 | DRY SHAMPOO | A pony tail works best on dirty hair. Begin by spraying dry shampoo on your scalp, while running your hands through your hair. If you want a lot of body, follow this tutorial for creating natural waves first.
STEP 2 | SEPARATE HAIR | Divide your hair in two parts. Pull a small top section from the scalp, and wrap it in a clip on top of your head.
STEP 3 | SECURE BOTTOM HALF | Pull the bottom section of your hair into a high, tight pony. Use a brush to ensure you’re fully pulling the under-section upwards. This ensures you don’t get that dreaded lump under the elastic tie as the day goes on.
STEP 4 | COMBINE SECTIONS | Release the top section from your clip, and combine it with the bottom pony. Use a hair tie to secure both ponies together… [keep the bottom hair tie in as well, and merely wrap the second elastic band around it].
STEP 5 | HIDE HAIR TIES | Mask the elastic bands by wrapping an inch-wide chunk of hair around your hair ties. Secure it with bobby pins.
STEP 6 | SPRAY + TEXTURIZE | Pull a few small pieces from around your scalp, to give the pony a ‘lived-in’ look. Lightly use hair spray on top, and apply texturizing spray to your pony to give it volume.
